Complex Behaviour Support
Need Complex Behaviour Support across the Central Coast, Campbelltown, Gosford, Sydney, Blacktown, and Liverpool areas?
Triniti Care specialises in support for persons with complex behaviours, specifically those with an intellectual or developmental disability. Complex behaviours might be physically aggressive behaviours, self-injurious behaviours, strategies for elopement, risk-taking behaviours, destructive behaviour or emotional tantrums.
These types of behaviours can significantly affect the quality of life and daily living of the individual, as well as emotional stability and safety of others who are around them. Structured, professional, and compassionate support can be given to individuals by our team to help them cope with such behaviours and improve the quality of life for individuals and their networks of support.
Our method at Triniti Care is safe, respectful, and personalized. In particular, we aim to understand and assist our clients in a manner that results in decreased challenging behaviours, over time.
We understand that all behaviour is purposeful; often, it is communicating an unmet need or responding to an environment. We do not simply attempt to stop the behaviour. We are trying to understand why the behaviour is occurring (the function of the behaviour) and respond to the purpose, with a suitable and compassionate response.
What Are Complex Behaviours?
What Are Complex Behaviours? Complex behaviours, commonly known as behaviours of concern, are actions that may pose a risk to the person or others or that have a substantial impact on a person's well-being. Complex behaviours can include:
- Aggression – e.g., hitting, kicking, or biting
- Property destruction – e.g., breaking or damaging objects
- Self-injury – e.g., head-banging, skin-picking, or other forms of self-harm
- Unsafe behaviours – e.g., running away, eating non-food items, or engaging in risky actions
- Emotional outbursts or repetitive behaviours, which can be intense or difficult to manage
These behaviours are not always intentional or "bad" behaviours. More so, they are a means for people to express an unmet need, a feeling of discomfort, some physical pain, or emotional distress. At Triniti Care, we use evidence from literature, our practice, and compassion, and use an individual-centred approach. Our aim, for every individual, is to ensure they feel safe, understood, and supported in a way that maintains their dignity and quality of life.
